❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Does this work without knowing the password?+
No. This tool requires you to know and enter the password. To remove password protection, the tool first decrypts the PDF using the password you provide, then saves it in an unprotected format. If you don't know the password, use the PDF Password Cracker tool which tries common passwords automatically.
Are my files sent to a server?+
No. All processing happens locally in your browser using JavaScript. Your PDF is never uploaded anywhere.
Why might it fail even with the correct password?+
Some PDFs use AES-256 encryption with restrictions that browser-based tools cannot fully process. In that case the tool will show an error. You can try opening the PDF in Adobe Reader with the password and using "Print to PDF" to create an unprotected copy.
What encryption types are supported?+
RC4 40-bit, RC4 128-bit, and AES 128-bit encrypted PDFs are supported. AES-256 may have limitations in browser environments.
